St John's Wood Primary School

School Council

What is a School Council?

  • A school council represents the views of all pupils. It gives children the opportunity to make their voices heard and feel part of the whole school community.
  • A school council helps to make changes and improvements, and tries to make the school a nicer place for everyone.

 Election Process and Democracy

  • At St. John’s Wood Primary, every class chooses one representative to be a member of the school council.
  • Voting for council members takes place at the beginning of each school term.
  • Before they are voted for, candidates have to create a poster and give a speech to their class explaining why they want to be on the council.
  • Afterwards all the votes are counted and the person with the most votes becomes the school council representative.
